What's your favorite time of day to work out? [Mar. 20th, 2009|10:30 pm]
No More Jiggly Butts!

Curious to hear about other peoples' preferences.  I detest mornings and would much rather hit the gym in the evening, but A) it's way more crowded then, and B) I seem to end up running late for everything if I work out in the evening.

I'm trying to get on a schedule of hitting the gym briefly before work, and it's slowly getting more bearable.  Several coworkers hit the company gym around lunchtime (people tend to stagger their workout times since it's a small gym room) but I think I'd have problems getting back to the daily grind if I did that.

So, what do you all like to do?

We recently joined the YMCA... I prefer early afternoons myself. 3-3:30ish. Now admittedly with my hours that's possible. :-) If I were to even contemplate before work that would mean like leaving the house at 4:30ish in the AM and that AINT happening. I do find that if I getto the Y around 3:30 the machines have folks but it's not unbearable. If I get there at 4:30 I want to strangle people. :-)

I used to force myself to hit the gym in the morning, which meant getting up at the ass-crack of dawn to be at the gym when it opened at 5 a.m. I did that for over a year. I liked that I was only one of a handful of people there that early, which meant I never had to wait for any machines. It also helped get me moving in the morning, but it really sucked on those days where I had stayed up late the night before.

I have also hit the gym after work (which really means I arrived around 6 p.m.) I didn't mind this so much, but having to wait for the machines I wanted (or not use them at all at times) really sucked. Now that we have a few pieces of equipment at home, it's easier to do what I want right after work. What I don't like about working out that late in general, though, is having to delay eating dinner.

Lately, I've been working out over my lunch hour. It's not my optimal choice, but it seems to be working so far, especially since I generally eat my lunch at my desk anyway.

Well, I haven't been able to make anything work for me super consistently so far, but in the morning before work seems to be best. If I wait until after work, it gets so much easier to put off.

But then, I work out at home, with free weights only. When I did belong to a gym I went after work, but that's because the gym was about 2 miles from work and working out then meant that I got to skip evening rush hour getting home.
